Q. I own an energy inefficient 70s condo. It still has some single-pane windows, the duct system distributes heat in insane ways, and our exterior walls are very cold in the winter, indicating heat loss. Now, there are tons of web tools with advice on what to do. Inspect your ducts, caulk, replace windows. I have two basic problems with those: 1) I don't know how (like how do I inspect my ductwork, from the inside). 2) I don't have the time. I have REPAIRS to do - sinks, etc, that I am behind on, I certainly don't have time to work on the less urgent energy stuff. 3) The tools don't address my specific problems (cold walls, funky ductwork) Now, I have access to a HELOC.
